Two groups were used for this study; a non-clinical group, consisting of 134 mothers with no child counseling experience, and a clinical group consisting of 75 mothers of with counseling experiences. The mothers from the clinical group had higher levels of education, more religious experiences, higher expectations toward the effects of counseling, placed a higher priority on receiving counseling, and sought out counseling mote actively when compared to the non-clinical group mothers. These mothers felt mote stress and less competence when it came to parenting, and perceived their children`s problems more seriously. However, they had mote information and better access to counseling, and received mote suggestions and support for counseling than those of the non-clinical group. Factors affecting counseling-seeking behavior of mothers were the level of their education, the priority they placed on counseling, whether they sought out counseling actively, and their awareness of the severity of the behavior problems they were faced with accessibility, receiving suggestions for counseling and information about counseling, and the child`s level of withdrawal.
